"That He might sanctify and cleanse it by the washing of water through the word" (Ephesians 5:26)
The Apostle Paul likens the Word of God to the water that purifies. Just as water is necessary to cleanse the body and remove impurities, so too is the Word of God necessary to cleanse the soul from the defilement of sin and the thoughts of the world.
The Word of God, a living and effective force (Hebrews 12:4), "penetrates the depths of the heart, bringing out what is within us, transforming and purifying it. It is pure water that washes our eyes so that we may see as God sees, and washes our hearts so that we may love as he loves."
When we are bathed in the Word, we not only gain knowledge, but we are sanctified. It works within us day by day, leading us to a life pleasing to the Lord and reshaping us according to the image of Christ.
Pray with me
Lord, thank you for giving me your living word, which is pure water that cleanses and sanctifies me.
Morning, set aside time to read God's Word May your morning be filled with the light of Christ
